Newport (Ymerodraeth State of Mind) is cowin' lush
South Wales-based parody of Jay-Z and Alicia Keys 'Empire State of Mind' becomes overnight sensation

An affectionate rap homage to Newport starring Alex Warren and Terema Wainwright has been sweeping the web this week. The video (and tune) bear a striking resemblance to the rap song Empire State of Mind by Jay-Z and Alicia Keys. It's almost as if the singers had been transplanted from America to South Wales.

Tweets of appreciation from Lily Allen and Rob Brydon have helped people to discover it and Youtube users have been leaving positive comments from day one. #lukylu1982 wrote 'Better than the original!' while #terrymackie wrote 'Even old geezers from Cardiff think this is the best thing to come out of Newport since Ceri Sweeney saw the light! The video is like Gavin and Stacey learn hip-hop and do Newport.'

To be fair it is rare to hear 'Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch' in a rap song, and chorus lyrics like 'Newport: concrete jungle, nothing in order, not far from the border' make it all the sweeter.

The YouTube video below was taken down under instruction by EMI, however, you can still see a copy of it here and below:
